A private graveside funeral service will be held at St. Stephens Episcopal Church Cemetery, 196 Brick Church Circle, St. Stephen, SC 29479. A public memorial celebration of her life will be held next spring in St. Stephen.
Meta Baggett Borop was born in St. Stephen, SC to the late Wilson Tate and Sara Lenora Venning Baggett. After graduating from Flora MacDonald College, she married Dr. Niles Borop, Jr., and they moved to Aiken in 1955. She was a member of the DAR, P.E.O., the Eastern Star, and the First Presbyterian Church of Aiken. She was an avid bridge player.
Mrs. Borop lost her husband, Dr. Niles Alfred Borop, Jr. in 2006. She spent her last years following the accomplishments of her grandchildren both of whom have followed Dr. Borop into medicine, Sara Anne as an anesthesiologist and Meta Susan as a labor and delivery RN. In the tradition of Aiken, both young women are accomplished equestrians, Sara Anne as an eventer and Meta Susan as a world-class show jumper.
Meta Borop also enjoyed tending to her beloved garden with the help of Mr. Otis Hammond, playing bridge with her many long-time Aiken friends, and working as a correspondent for the Public Education Center. Mrs. Louise Hammond assisted Mrs. Borop during her later years becoming her caregiver and friend.
