Donald A. Duncan, 71, died Friday, November 7, 2014 at Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno. He was born July 15, 1943 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Angelo and Hazel Loney Duncan. He married Sherrie Stam On September 17, 1966 at St. Joseph Church in Bradley, IL.


Donald had worked at Sharon Brown Trucking in Greensburg, Indiana. He was a member of Maternity BVM Church in Bourbonnais, where he helped establish a Teen Club many years ago. He and his wife were members of the Centennial Committee in Bourbonnais and founding members of the Bourbonnais Friendship Festival and served on its original committee. He continued to be active with the festival for 13 years until he and his wife moved to Indiana. Donald established the "Tractor Pull" and the "Fishing Derby" held during the festival.


An artist, Donald worked with paints and charcoals, under the name, "Storyteller". He also enjoyed fishing and working on cars and had been an EMT and volunteer fireman. However, family was the most important thing to him, and he never passed up a teachable moment.


He is survived by his wife Sherrie , of Bradley; two daughters and two son in laws, Ann and Peter Hlavach of Elmhurst, Kristen and William Hobbs of Metamora, Indiana; four grandchildren, David Duncan-Hobbs, Brandon Hobbs, Eva Hlavach, Keith Hlavach. He is also survived by two sisters, Patricia and Roger Griffith of Kankakee, Kathleen and Dennis Lottinville of Bourbonnais; one brother Gary and Carol Duncan of Bourbonnais.


Donald was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Jane Duncan.


Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 11, from 4 pm to 7pm at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais.


Funeral Service will be held at 7pm Tuesday at the funeral home.


Cremation rites will be held following funeral services and interment will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.


Memorials may be made to Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno.
