Mary Ann (Robinson) Bay was born August 13, 1813 in Lower Bristol, Fayette County, Ohio to Thomas and Lydia (Horney) Robinson. Her family were Quakers and are listed in Quaker Records. Information indicates that she had 7 brothers and sisters. Her family line on her mother's side goes back to the Mayflower.

Mary Robinson married David William Bay on December 13, 1829 in Allen County, Indiana. They were married by Justice of the Peace, Robert Wood. The license was issued on December 9th. It should be noted that some sources incorrectly list the marriage date as December 10, 1829, but that date was when Mary's brother, Horney Robinson, was married.

Mary's birth date and death date are listed in the William R. Bay Family Bible. She died March 26, 1836 in Pleasant Township, Allen County, Indiana.

The "History of Allen County, Indiana," published in 1880 by the Kingman Brothers says: "The first death was that of Mrs. Mary Bay, wife of David Bay and sister of Horney Robinson. She died in 1841, and was buried on the farm of her brother. Several other interments were made on the same farm at a later date, but the place was not set apart, for a cemetery." The date of death listed there we now know is incorrect. Mary died March 26, 1836. David married his second wife, Mary Ann Newman June 22, 1837 and their first child, Charles, was born in 1838.

According to a map in the book mentioned above, Horney Robinson's farm was located in the northwest corner of Pleasant Township close to Robinson Creek. Today, by comparing old maps with new maps, it appears the farm possibly could be in the southwest corner of Wayne Township as apparently, the townships have changed boundaries slightly since then. Robinson Creek still appears on current maps.

Mary's exact burial place is an assumption, but the facts fit. Brenton Chapel Cemetery, which is also known as Coverdale Cemetery and Robinson Cemetery, appears to be in the right location when comparing the location to Horney Robinson's farm on the old map. That, plus the fact that Horney Robinson and his wife are buried here. And, since it is extremely likely that he was buried with family on his farm in the burial place he had set aside, there is a strong probability that is where Mary Ann (Robinson) Bay is buried. If not, from the old maps she would be still be very close. Brenton Chapel-Coverdale-Robinson Cemetery records do not list her, but it is thought record keeping didn't begin until after 1851.
