Donald Lee Howard, 88, of Emington, passed away Friday, November 07, 2014 at 2:30 a.m. at the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno, IL.

The service will be Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home in Odell, IL with Reverend Connie Williams Moodie officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Emington, IL.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 12, 2014 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home in Odell.

Donald was born December 18, 1925 in Emington, son of Samuel Earl and Ruth (DeMotte) Howard. He married Dorothy Weber; they divorced. He later married Rose Marie Zappa on March 31, 1951 in Kankakee, IL. She passed away January 30, 2012.

He is survived by his sons, Donald Lee Howard II of Columbus, MS, Jesse Lee (Delora Henkel) Howard of Pontiac, IL and Mark Anthony Howard, Sr. of Herscher, IL; grandchildren, Donald Willie Howard of Starkville, MS, Thomas Joe Howard of Atlanta, GA, Heather Leshay Howard of Orange Park, FL, Jess Anthony “Tony” (Ginger) Howard of Bloomington, IL, Jared William Howard of Sumpter, SC, Ashley Marie (Will Smith) Howard of Cabery, IL, Brittany (Jonathan) Robinson of Winterville, NC, Austin Lee Howard of Cabery, IL and Mark Anthony Howard II of Cabery, IL; and his great grandchildren, Elissa Marie Howard of Bloomington, IL, Quinlan Anthony Howard of Bloomington, IL, Logan Thomas Adams of Cabery, IL, Brooklyn Marie Smith of Cabery, IL, Raven Rose Smith of Cabery, IL and Isabella Rose Smith of Cabery, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his second wife, Rose; three brothers, Marion Howard, Garold Howard, and Leslie Howard; and one grandson, Bradley Balazs.

Donald attended grade school in rural Emington and then attended Kempton High School. He served in the U. S. Army from March 1944 to April 1946. He farmed the Emington/Kempton area for 39 years, was a rural substitute mail carrier for the U. S. Post Office, and was a truck driver for agriculture and construction. Donald was a member of the First Congressional United Church of Christ in Dwight, IL. He was also a proud member of the American Legion for 61 years
