Obituary for Donovan Russell

Donovan Russell, 81, of Indianapolis, passed away November 8, 2014. He was born January 15, 1933 in Columbus, OH, to the late George S. and Emily Hurt Russell. Donovan was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School and Dwyer Business College. He was employed for over 15 years as a bookkeeper for Midwest Food Center. Donovan was a member of Indian Creek Christian Church.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 13, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12 noon at Shirley Brothers Irving Hill Chapel, 5377 E. Washington St.

Donovan is survived by his cousins, Suzan E. Stoops (Joe), Jim Perry (Wilma), Marvin Beall and David Meakin; and close friend, Randy Kolodziej.

Memorial contributions may be made to Indian Creek Christian Church.

Donovan past away during the night, and the cause is unknown. Donovan's biological mother, Emilie died 3 days after giving birth to him. Donovan was not expected to live, because he was premature. One arm was deformed, it didn't straighten, he later walked with a cane and his organs were also not in their usual positions. This was discovered later in life, when he had gall bladder surgery. Emilie's sister and brother-in-law, Caroline Justine "Carrie" Hurt and William Joseph "Bob" Meakin were childless, and they took Donovan and raised him as their own. As an infant, the doctor had Carrie bundle him up and set him outside on the porch in the dead of winter to help his immature lungs.

Donovan never married or had children and as far as I know he was a lifelong resident of Indianapolis. He always lived with his parents Bob and Carrie and his aunt, Alberta Marjorie Hurt.
