Alexander McPhail, a resident of Rockford for 23 years, died yesterday morning at 7 o;clock at his home 514 North Second street, after an illness of six weeks from heart disease.
Mr. McPhail was born Jan. 23, 1841, in Argyleshore, Scotland and came to this country in 1866 with his father and settled in the Scotch settlement near Argyle. In 1885 hr married Miss Margaret Reid. In 1900 he retired from the farm and moved to Rockford.
He is survived by the widow and two sons, William A. McPahil, president of the Rockford Lions club, and James A. McPhail. Funeral services will be held at the residence, 516 North Second street, at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, the Rev. R. B. Guthrie of Westminster Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.
