"Funeral services for a colorful pioneer personality and character who kept his clever wit and keen intellect until his advanced years, of Broken Bow, formerly of Mason City area, were held at 2 p.m. on May 13th, 1958 at the Schneringer-Johnson and Govier Brothers Mortuary Chapel in Broken Bow, Nebraska, with Rev. Emery Roy, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Duane Williams, accompanied by Mrs. Selden Wenquist. The pallbearers were Henry C. Haeberle, Nick Smets, Ed Parker, Bill Carland, Tom Connely and Gail Clay. Burial was made in the cemetery at Ansley, Custer County, Nebraska.
Charlie Amsberry was born in Knoxville, Iowa on May 1, 1866 and he passed away on May 11, 1958 at the advanced age of 92 years and ten days. He was born to Norton and Jane Amsberry and is the last of twelve children.
When his father died in 1876, he with his mother and brothers and sisters moved to Custer County, Nebraska in 1879 and he has spent the rest of his life here.
On September 23, 1886, he was married to Almyra Amsberry. To this union, ten children were born; three of whom died in infancy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Almyra, two sons, Claude and Earl.
In 1932, he was united in marriage with Mary Etta Deal. When he was a young man, he was baptized into the membership of the Baptist Church and remained in that faith the rest of his life. He was a charter member of the baptist Church in Ansley.
He leaves to mourn his death four daughters; Mrs. Frank (Mamie M.) Armstrong of Broken Bow, Nebraska, Mrs. Gladys Zeller-Skinner of Harvard, Nebraska, Janie Johnson of Lincoln, Nebraska, Ruby Russom of Superior, Wisconsin; and one son, Delmar Amsberry of Plains, Montana; many grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews."
