Mr. Leon Mitchell, 73, of Swainsboro died Tuesday afternoon, November 4, 2014 at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro following a brief illness.
Mr. Mitchell was born October 17, 1941 in Claxton GA to the late Ralph Mitchell and Laverna Saturday Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Cleon Mitchell; sister-in-law, Sue Mitchell. He lived in Emanuel County for the past 45 years. Mr. Mitchell retired from Bellsouth currently AT&T as a lineman and installer. He also served 6 years in the Army National Guard. Mr. Mitchell was an avid fisherman, loved gardening. He loved spending time with his family. He especially loved his grandchildren and his dog Charlie. Mr. Mitchell was a member of the First Baptist Church in Swainsboro.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Faye Gay Mitchell of Swainsboro; daughters, Teresa Mitchell (Scotty) Lanier of Swainsboro and Robin Mitchell (Brad) Ingraham of Jacksonville FL; brothers, Billy Mitchell of Savannah and Freddie (Annette) Mitchell of Richmond Hill; grandchildren, Hank Ingraham, Ally Ingraham and Loren Ingraham all of Jacksonville, FL.; faithful companion, Charlie; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Swainsboro at 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon, November 8, 2014 with Reverend Paul Leigh officiating with the Reverend Ray Freeman assisting. Mr. Mitchell will Lie in State one hour prior to service.
Interment will be in the Eastbrook Cemetery near Swainsboro with military honors.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday evening, November 7, 2014 at Chapman Funeral Home.
Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro is in charge of the arrangements for the funeral of Mr. Leon Mitchell, 73, of Swainsboro.
