For Patricia Ann Ferguson, family came first. And she loved hearing about her ancestry. Pat's generosity knew no bounds, and if someone was having difficulty, Pat was among the first to offer tangible help.
She also loved living in Huntington Beach. She used to say that she would not be happy living anywhere else.

Pat enjoyed collecting. As a girl, two of her collections were ethnic dolls from around the world, and a beautiful glass menagerie collection that she kept in a glass cabinet in front of her bedroom window.
On her girlhood bed was a "dog" made of yarn, so popular at the time.
In later years, she enjoyed collecting carousel horses and pinball machines.
She also loved animals, to whom she was very kind and compassionate.

She married three times: John "Jack" Chambers, Oakley William Lauer (1927-2001), and James Sheldon Utt (1929-2013).
Her children from these marriages were the lights of her life.

When her mother Mary Vie Garvin Ferguson (1894-1987) suffered a stroke, Pat took devoted care of her all the rest of her mother's life.

Here are excerpts from Pat's obituary:

On Monday, November 21st, 2011, Patricia Ann Utt, passed away at the age of 83. Pat, as she liked to be called, was a true Huntington Beach "Native". Pat was born and lived in Huntington Beach all her life. Pat was alive and well when the oil fields scattered the shores of the coast and orange groves flooded the surrounding cities within the county. She was born October 18th, 1928 in a small house in downtown Huntington Beach that still stands today on Geneva Street to parents, John and Mary Ferguson. John worked at Standard Oil Company for most of his life while her mother, Mary owned many shops in downtown H.B. as did Pat herself, and something that Mary was most known for was her famous pies, biscuits and cookies which Pat especially loved. Pat had one older brother, Samuel, "Sam," who she was very close with and shared an avid interest in reading. Pat grew up in downtown H.B where she created an eclectic home for her family and pets by Lake Park, where she could often be seen walking her pets. Over the years she loved many pets but her most beloved was Punkin, who was not only her most loved dog, but also a best friend. Pat was active in the community and assisted in many local events, parades and fundraisers. Over the years Pat owned and operated several businesses in the downtown area that included a costume rental, a dress shop, and an old fashioned ice cream parlor complete with a jukebox and arcade games that were restored from the old Pike in Long Beach. Pat also worked and retired from a position with the federal government and was a well loved and appreciated co-worker and manager. Even days before her death she was keeping up with old friends and co-workers from as early as the 1970's because they loved her spunk and vibrant personality and wit. She was an outgoing, compassionate, sassy, intelligent woman who loved animals, oil painting, reading, watching TV and spending time with her family. To say she was loved and will be greatly missed is an understatement. She is survived by her son, {two] daughters, [one] granddaughter, and [three] grandsons. Pat also had a son, John Steven Chambers "Stevie" that preceded her in death. Services will be held Saturday, December 10th, at 2:00 pm at Advantage Funeral home, 627 Main Street, Huntington Beach, CA 92648.
