Lynn H. Hammond

Retired Master Sergeant Lynn H. Hammond passed away on October 22, 2014, at RMC Jacksonville Hospital. He was born on March 13, 1941 in Taylor, New York. He was the son of the late Herbert and Ethel (Hammond) VanAtta. Lynn enlisted in the US Army and retired honorably as a Master Sergeant after serving 22.5 years. A US Army veteran from the Vietnam era, an avid fisherman, a loving husband an proud father, Lynn loved his country, his family and his church. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Donna Hammond, of Weaver; daughter, Melissa Hammond, of Glen Rock, Pa.; brother, John Hammond, of Cortland, N.Y.; sisters, Linda Gregory, of Cortland, N.Y., Debra Wassum, of Havre de Grace, Md. and Sylvia Hammond, of Homer, N.Y. and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Fred Hammond and Dick Hammond. His family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Jacksonville Health and Rehab for the quality care and loving attention they gave to Mr. Hammond. A memorial service will be held at Saks Baptist Church on November 2, 2014 at 12:30 p.m. A family service will be held at a later date near where he grew up in New York.
