OLD BYRDTOWN WATERMAN DEAD
H. B. Sterling Passed Away At Home Near Here
BURIED IN ASBURY CEMETERY TUESDAY

Horatio Benton Sterling, a resident of Byrdtown, passed away at his home in that section on Sunday last, November 6th. Had he lived he would have been 76 years of age next month.

The deceased was the son of the late William C. Sterling and Priscilla Somers Sterling, both of families prominent in the history of this city and of Somerset county; families who were pioneers in the settling and development of this section. His wife, the late Mary Sterling, departed this life about ten years ago.

Born on December 6, 1862 and growing up in and with Crisfield and its suburbs, Mr. Sterling had always been a credit to this community and his deeds of kindness to mankind were innumerable. His kind, loving and unselfish disposition endeared him to all With whom he came in contact.

He was known far and wide for his industriousness, honesty and integrity and was of the highest type Christian gentleman who was faithful to his church and to his God. Wherever he went be made friends; friends who were shocked and grieved to learn of his passing and whose many floral tributes, banked against his casket as he went to his final resting place, depicted the esteem in which he was held.

Early in life he felt the urge to follow the water and through the years, made that his vocation. At this work he was successful and many of his closest acquaintances and companions were these hearty men who make the following of the water their life's work and with whom he labored.

Some time ago, feeling the urge to lay down his tools for a well-earned rest he retired from his vocation of waterman.

Funeral services were held from the Pilgrim Holiness Church on Tuesday of this week at 2:00 p. m. Rev. H. D. Dukes, pastor of that church was in charge of the last rites.

Interment was in the Asbury cemetery.
