Jimmie Lynn Farriester, born to Willie and Maxine
Farriester in Rogers, Arkansas left this world as he
lived in it, quietly and without any fuss. Jim,
aka “Festus” passed on Saturday, November 1, 2014
due to the complications of Leukemia. He left this
place peacefully in his home with his wife,
Martha Farriester, by his side.
Jim was a vet of the Vietnam War and served
as field EMT. As with many who served during
this war, Jim chose to not focus his energy or time
reminiscing on this period. Although, we felt it
important to honor his time served and that all
knew of Jim’s sacrifices for this country.
Jim was the ultimate handyman and could be
found on the U of A campus where he spent 38
years as a carpenter. After taking care of the
University campus, Jim always made the time
to offer a helping hand and hammer to his family,
friends and neighbors. This work ethic and his
want to always offer a hand will be Jim’s living
legacy which we know that so many he touched
will carry with them into the future and beyond.
We know that Jim will live on in many homes,
buildings and wood shops because of his gracious
and giving nature. Jim ultimately succumbed to Leukemia and the complications associated with such a devastating disease. In lieu of flowers, Jim’s family has asked for donations in his name to be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
Jim is survived by his wife, Martha Ann Farriester,of Springdale, Arkansas. This Christmas would have been their 43rd Anniversary.
He is also survived by Joey’s wife, Kristy Tweden
Farriester and their two daughters, Nellie Rose
and Taylor Grace. His two sons,Joey Alan Farriester of Springdale, Arkansas and
Andy Layne Farriester of San Francisco,California Also, Andy’s partner, Russell Durant, also from San Francisco, California.
In lieu of a traditional funeral service, Jim’s family will be hosting a celebration of his life on Thursday,November 6, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at his home in Springdale, Arkansas 72762.
We wanted to offer our sincerest gratitude to all who came by to see Jim during his final week on this physical earth and for helping us re-discover a husband, a father
and a friend with your shared stories of the time and impact Jimmy “Festus” Farriester had on all of you.
