Elmer Mitchell, 77, Smithton, died at the Bothwell Hospital at 2 pm Wednesday. He had been ill since last January. He was born in Morgan County near Florence, Nov. 28, 1886, son of the Late James T. and Abbie Wheeler Mitchell. He lived most of his life in Pettis County where he was engaged in farming.
He married in Sedalia, Sept. 12, 1908, to Miss Lula Bass. They were the parents of one son, who died in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home, Route 2, Sedalia, in 1958. Mrs. Mitchell died Dec. 20, 1959.
One of a family of eight children, Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by one brother, Ordell Mitchell and four sisters; Mrs. Effie Reed, Mrs. Bertha Finley, Mrs. Stells Cramer and Mrs. Loretta Brown.
A niece who was reared in the Mitchell home, Mrs. Lucille Bolten, died in 1943.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by one niece, who was reared in the Mitchell home, Mrs. Nadine Galbraith, Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. James Bass, Smithton; Mrs. Oma Brown, Glendale, Calif.
Funeral services will be held at the Ewing Funeral Home at 2 pm Friday. The Rev. John Steele, Smithton, will officiate.
Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery.
The body is at the Ewing Funeral Home.
