L.V. Arnett, 92, of Gatesville, passed away Saturday, November 1, 2014. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 5, 2014, at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Live Oak Cemetery in Hamilton County. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service.

L.V. was born in Hamilton County, Texas, to the late Vernon L. and Emma Jeffries Arnett. He graduated from Pearl Rural High School in 1938. After he graduated, he went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in 1942 from Baylor University. While attending Baylor, he played Varsity Basketball. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps. in 1942 during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. He went on to receive his Master’s Degree from Baylor University in 1947.

L.V. married Georgia Beth Patterson in Gatesville on June 3, 1947. They resided in Coryell County until moving to Balmorhea in 1950, where L.V. became Superintendent of Schools until 1953. They then moved to Fort Stockton where he served as principal until 1955, and then they moved to Van Horn where he was Superintendent of Schools. They moved back to Fort Stockton in 1956; in 1960, L.V. became a Realtor where he had built over 200 homes until his retirement.

He served two terms as Mayor of Fort Stockton from 1963 to 1967, as well as being involved in the Fort Stockton Lions Club as Past President, and Fort Stockton Chamber of Commerce as Past President. He was voted Outstanding Citizen of Fort Stockton in 1970. He taught Bible class for many years in Fort Stockton and Gatesville and was a member of the Downtown Church of Christ. They moved back to Gatesville in 1989. He was currently a member of Leon Valley Church of Christ in Temple.

L.V. is survived by his wife, Georgia, of Gatesville; daughter, Michele Palmer and husband, Ed, of China Spring; son, Jed Arnett, of Houston; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
