Mr. Thomas W. Cowans, of Charlotte, was born May 4, 1927 to the late John and Sallie Lillian Cowans of Rowan County, NC. He was called to glory, Saturday, August 31, 2002. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. at Galilee Baptist Church.
He retired from Overnight Transportation Co. after thirty-five years of service. He was a member of Galilee Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a deacon in 1979 and served faithfully until his illness. He also contributed his talent to the Hymn Choir and Usher Ministry.
Cherishing his memory are his wife of fifty-four years, Mrs. Ruth L. Cowans; daughters, Sallie Houston, and Mary Crawford (Johnnie); and sons, James W. Rogers, Thomas L. Cowans, and Clarence B. Miller (Patricia), all of Charlotte; sisters, Martha Carr of Davidson, NC and Bertha Mae Graham (James) also of Charlotte; brother, Arthur Sherrill of Mooresville, NC; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends and expressions of kindness at the home of Thomas Cowans, 520 Honeywood Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28216, on Friday evening.
