Phyllis L. Porter

Phyllis L. Porter, 95, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Sunday morning (November 24, 2002) at Twin Pines Adult Care Center.

The daughter of James W. and Jennie (Antram) Gibson, she was born January 12, 1907 on a farm southwest of Hurdland, Missouri. In 1927 she was united in marriage to Paul E. Dudgeon and he preceded her in death on November 10, 1955. In 1962 she was united in marriage to Earl b. Porter and he preceded her in death in 1979.

Her parents and one son, Don Dudgeon also preceded her in death.

Surviving are two grandsons, Gary Dudgeon of Jefferson City, Missouri and Todd Dudgeon of Columbia, Missouri. one step-son, Robert B. Porter of Houston, Texas; one step-daughter, Anne Sollars of Tyler, Texas and several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and step-grandchildren.

Phyllis attended the Rock Creek grade school and graduated from Hurdland High School. She attended Hannibal La Grange College and was certified to teach rural schools near her home. She worked on PWA and taught adult education at five locations near Hurdland, Missouri. She took correspondence courses with La Salle University and was certified in bookkeeping and worked many years at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in the Treasurer's office. Later she was employed by Northeast Missouri State University (Now Truman State) in the Business managers office until 1955 when she was disabled in an auto accident. She traveled with her second husband, Earl, who was a right of way association member, buying land for utilities in the Easter half of the United States. In 1979 she moved back to the Kirksville area.

She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Kirksville and the Rebecca Lodge.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (November 27, 2002) at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel with Reverend Virgil Jones officiating. Music will be provided by Dianthe Cable, organist. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Memorial Park in St. Joseph, Missouri.
