William H. Thompson, the well-known Constable of Clarion Borough for so many years, breathed his last in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, Monday last, November 29, 1915, at 4:50 a.m. Mr. Thompson's death was caused by pneumonia which followed the accidental fall he received on the street opposite the Court House in Clarion, Saturday November 20 by which he sustained a broken thigh bone. His son, Albert, of Pittsburgh, happened to be up here on a hunting expedition and took his father to the hospital the following Monday. He seemed to get along very satisfactorily for a time but as so frequently happens with aged persons, pneumonia set in and the end came speedily.
William H. Thompson was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in November, 1845. He came to America in 1862, and soon after settled in Mineral Ridge, Ohio. He came to Pennsylvania some time after and lived in Parker during part of the oil excitement. About 1884 he came to Clarion county and three or four years later moved to Clarion, where he has lived ever since.
Mr. Thompson was married twice, and to sisters [sic]. His first wife was Miss Cynthia Baines, of Mineral Ridge, 0., their wedding taking place in 1874. Several years after her death Mr. Thompson was married to Miss Jennie Baines, who died in Clarion several years ago. The following children survive: Albert Thompson, Mrs. Coleman, Wm. H., Cynthia, Edith and Thomas Thompson, all of Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Mary Smith, of Cleveland, Ohio.
Mr. Thompson filled the office of Borough Policeman and Constable for many years being elected by the votes of the people several times to the latter office. His body was brought to Clarion and the funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Walter E. Reynolds, pastor of the Baptist Church, of which the family are adherents, Thursday, at 10 o'clock a.m., many of his former friends being in attendance to show their esteem for the deceased. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community.
