HAZLEHURST -- Alton J. Hughes, 82, died Feb. 17 at Jeff Davis Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Jeff Davis County. He retired from the City of Hazlehurst Water Department.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Myrtle Cain Hughes of Hazlehurst; four daughters, Jessie Mae Deen of Thomasville, Virginia Toumbleston of Stockbridge, Linda Capps of Douglas and Kathy Hewett of Hazlehurst; a son, Roy Hughes of Hazlehurst; a stepdaughter, Wilene Chaeshire of Polk City, Fla.; four stepsons, Willie Mincey of Lakeland, Fla., Daley, Johnny and Tommy Mincey, all of Hazlehurst; two sisters, Thelma Simmons of Hazlehurst and Vera Hutcheson of Mount Dora, Fla.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
