Clifford Calhoun Sr.
passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at the age of 92. He was born on October 7, 1913 at the family ranch at Green Mountain, in Mariposa County to parents Bob and Cibba Appling Calhoun.
Clifford attended school at Green Mountain and lived his entire life in Mariposa and Madera Counties. He loved animals and was never happier then when he was riding one of this many horses. He was a true "Cowboy". He worked on many cattle ranches in Merced, Mariposa and Madera Counties. He also loved to race horses in Raymond. In the early 50's you would find him every Sunday at the starting gates most of the time he would be riding as a jockey.
After he retired from working on the Roy Martin Ranch, Clifford green broke over 200 colts after he was 50 years old.
Clifford was a past Grand Marshal of the annual Raymond parade. Clifford married Marjorie Footman, a Raymond girl, in 1939. Marjorie passed away in 1998. Clifford was preceded in death by 3 sisters Eva, Marva, and June. He is survived by his 2 sons, Clif Calhoun and wife Darlean of Madera, Tom Calhoun and wife Alice of Raymond, his sister Emily Waag and husband Joe of Sacramento, CA. His 4 grandchildren Kimberly Coronado of Raymond, Clifford Calhoun Jr. of Madera, Will Calhoun of Raymond and Kitty Calhoun of Raymond, 4 great grandchildren Shayn Sambeuso of Fresno, Chase Coronado of Raymond and George and Dustin Calhoun of Coarsegold, also several nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Jay Chapel, Madera, CA. Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at 1:00 PM at Green Mountain Cemetery, Mariposa, CA
