Doc was born at old Cottage Grove on the Klamath River, the son of Ben Goodwin and Mary Ann (Lane). He spent his early years there. He married Julia A Blockwell on Nov 7th 1922 and they lived for the most part in Happy Camp up Indian Creek as well as in Hornbrook. They had 11 children, 5 sons and 6 daughters. His wife died in childbirth in 1939. Doc worked mining gold and on the Happy Camp-Orleans Road. He also helped Ivan Charles and Alice Johnson pack into and care for the Hoover Cabin in the Marble Mtn Wilderness for many years. Doc spent his final years in a rest home in Hornbrook, visited frequently by his son Doug.
