Marvin Vance Collie Jr., 46, died at the home of his parents-in-law Sunday in Palatka.
He was a native of Warrenton, Va., and had moved to Orange Park 12 years ago from Jacksonville. He was a member of the Madeira Baptist Church, where he played trumpet in the orchestra, and he was an usher. He was a graduate of Lee High School in Jacksonville. He was employed in Jacksonville with CSX as a switchman for 25 years and a member of the United Transportation Union, Local 903, in Jacksonville. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam conflict. He was a member of the United States Parachute Association.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Vance and Angela Collie of Jacksonville; wife, Virginia "Ginger" Collie of Orange Park; son and daughter-in-law, Brian Vance and Shannon Collie of Jacksonville; sister, Constance Daugherty of Jacksonville; parents-in-law, Frank and Katherine Strange of Palatka.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Madeira Baptist Church, Orange Park, with Dr. Jerry A. Robinson officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in jacksonville. (Palatka Daily News Obituary dtd 27 Jun 1995.)
