Boyce Dewayne Shaw was born on October 10, 1948, to Naomi Beatrice Luttrell and Ernest Franklin Shaw on the Dexter Boggle Farms in southeastern New Mexico and he remained a farm boy at heart his entire life. Dewayne was one of six children and the oldest son. He began working at the age of ten, hoeing cotton, and swiftly moved into upper management following a hostile takeover on his part, but he and his sister reconciled before dinner.

After graduating from Hagerman High School, he traveled to Canada and had many other adventures with his childhood best friend, Frank Green. Dewayne joined the National Guard and served in the Army Reserves as a staff sergeant while working for the Artesia, New Mexico Police Department as a patrolman. One day, he met a bell-bottom-wearing hippie girl in the park and fell in love. So, he married Vicki Clem on April 11, 1971, at the First Baptist Church in Artesia and they moved to Roswell where he continued working for the local Police Department before becoming a Sheriff's deputy in Chavez County. Dewayne concluded his New Mexico law enforcement career as an Investigator for the State of New Mexico's Fraud and Abuse department.

After his daughter Amy was born in 1977, he served as a deacon and choir member at Gateway Baptist Church and continued pursuing his undergraduate degree, which he would attain from Eastern New Mexico University, eighteen years after he started the endeavor! During this time he also shifted careers, becoming a Land Man for Reed and Sevens Corporation.

Due to the oil crash of 1986 Dewayne and his family moved to Dallas, Texas, where he worked for the Dallas County Probation Department for twenty-one years, earning many certifications, awards and promotions before retiring at a Supervisor's rank. He also continued to serve in local churches as a volunteer, and on staff as a Children's Pastor, Associate Pastor, and an Administrative Pastor. Somehow, he also found time to complete a Master's of Arts degree in Christian Leadership through Criswell College. Dewayne loved to teach and was proud that, together with his wife, he had led every age group from children to seniors!

Retirement did not sit well with such an active soul, so he went on to enjoy several part-time jobs, but he managed to fit in lots of golfing with his buddies and road trips with his wife. Dewayne wore many hats (daily, actually) from farmer to leader to friend. He was an amazing husband and father, a second dad to so many, and a man of unsurpassed integrity. He did not just mow his own lawn; he invested in a riding lawn mower and took on the neighborhood. Dewayne never hesitated to offer any of his resources to a friend or stranger, and he never lost an opportunity to share a story or a laugh with those he loved.

His parents preceded Dewayne in death. Survivors include wife, Vicki; daughter Amy and husband Tripp Jackson from Dallas, Texas; siblings, Judy Larson of Las Cruces, NM, Linda Parker and husband Jim of Roswell, NM, Tommy Dale Shaw of Roswell, NM, Emma Russell and husband Steve of Roswell, NM, Betty Spear and husband Terry of Roswell, NM, as well as numerous, beloved nieces and nephews along with their children.
