Dr. M. F. Jarrett, a former resident of the district of Cherokee county, Oklahoma, northeast of Chetopa, and a relative of Mrs. George Hancock of Welch, Oklahoma, died in a Fort Scott, Kansas hospital following an operation Wednesday, November 21. Mr. Jarrett settled in this district still bearing the family name in 1867, when his father, "Billy" Jarrett homesteaded the land in the district that he occupied until his death. The doctor was a graduate of the Chetopa high schools, taught in the district schools of Cherokee county and was superintendent of schools for two terms. Burial took place at Fort Scott, Friday, November 23.
