EARL E. WINGROVE


Earl E. Wingrove, 97, of Duboistown, died October 28, 2014 at his home.
He was born on March 30, 1917 in Williamsport to Arnold and Cora Snyder Wingrove.

After graduating from South Williamsport Area High School, he worked at various jobs in Williamsport and New York City until the beginning of World War II.

During the war he was assigned as a PFC to the U.S. Army’s 677th Military Police Battalion, serving as a guard of German prisoners of war at camps in Wisconsin, Wyoming and Colorado.

He retired in 1981 from his job as production inspector at Avco Lycoming, where he was employed for 30 years.

In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his first wife Josephine Agnoni Wingrove and second wife Doris Dewald Hassinger Wingrove, his sister Virginia Wingrove Stabley and his brothers Harmon and Ralph.

He is survived by his daughter Lori, his brothers Arnold (Pearl) and Paul (Naomi), and many nieces and nephews.

Earl was a longtime active member of South Williamsport (formerly Grace) United Methodist Church,
where he served for decades in various roles, including trustee, church council member and greeter.

He was a 39-year Masonic member of the John F. Leadlein Lodge #707 F & AM.

His hobbies over the years included trout fishing, reading, gardening and solving crossword puzzles, but what he most enjoyed was visiting and laughing with friends and family.

Funeral services to honor Earl will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 3, 2014 at South Williamsport United Methodist Church, 409 Main St., South Williamsport, with Pastor Mark Brumbach officiating.
Interment at Wildwood Cemetery will be private.
