She was born in Carrie, Kentucky on November 12, 1914 to Marion Cornett and Alice Parks Cornett. Her siblings in birth order were Winnie, Luna, Earl, Lizzie Gertrude, (Shirley), Burley, Nancy Jane, Marcus, Grace and Benton Cornett.
She was married twice. First to Pearl Risner, who died early in life from TB. They had 2 children: Clarence Risner and Beulah (Risner) Armstrong. Later she married Arlie Mullins and had 5 children: Philip, Hilda, Roger, Larry, and Marion.
