Mrs. Alta Calender, 75, R.R.4, Greensburg, died Saturday at the Desert Samaritan Hospital, Mesa, Ariz.

Mrs. Calender was born March 5, 1906, in Shelby County, the daughter of Alfred and Ella Kehl Monroe. She was the widow of Raymond Calender, who died in 1977.

She was a graduate of Butler University and was a retired school teacher. She taught in Shelby County, Decatur County and in Hope. For the past 10 years she managed her farm on R.R.4, Greensburg.

She is survived by one son, Monroe Calender, Litchfield Park, Ariz.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers: John Monroe, Edinburgh, Ervin Monroe, Florida and Paul Monroe, Beech Grove.

The services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Norman Funeral Home in Hope, with the Rev. Meredith Wilsong officiating and with burial in the Winchester Cemetery in Shelby County. Calling will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. The family suggests that memorials may be in the form of contributions to the Cancer Society.
