Mary E. Semrau, age 92, of Tomah, WI, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, at the Morrow Memorial Home in Sparta, Wisconsin. She was born on March 4, 1913, in Tunnel City, the daughter of Almon and Elizabeth (Rischette) Wyman.

Mary was a 1931 graduate of Tomah High School and also its Teachers' Training Department. She taught in rural one-room Monroe County schools prior to her marriage to Leo F. Semrau on June 26, 1937, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tomah.

She remained home caring for their children, Douglas and Janice, and was active in various church, school and community activities.

She eventually returned to the teaching field after graduating from Juneau County Teachers' College and while attending classes at La Crosse State University.

She taught fifth and sixth graders at the Angelo State Graded Elementary School for the Sparta School District and retired from that position in 1975. After Leo retired, they enjoyed traveling with Doug and his wife Barbara to Arizona, Branson, MO, Las Vegas and visiting Janice and her family.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tomah and belonged to St. Joan's Guild.

She was an active member of the Monroe County Retired Teachers' Association, the Tomah Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Milwaukee Railroad Women's Club. She treasured her many friends in these organizations.

After enjoying many years at her home on Lake Street, Mary appreciated the wonderful care she received while a resident of the Morrow Memorial Home in Sparta.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo and his family, and her brother, John Wyman, and his wife Cleo.

She is survived by her son, Doug (Barbara) Semrau of Tomah; a daughter, Janice (Tim) Henschel of Manitowoc; three grandchildren, Stephanie, Sarah (Travis) and Nicholas; great-granddaughter, Kendra Elizabeth and great-grandson, Brock Russell; two nephews, Tom and Dick; and two nieces, Barbara and Beth; many other relatives and friends.
