Lewis is the son of George E. Odell and Catherine Miller.
He's a brother to Curtis, Elmer, and Lucille.
In 1931 he married Kathleen "Dot" Keable. This union produced four children: Janet, James, Peter (Raymond), and Kathleen "Kitty." He lived in Brockport, NY, on Erie Street for most of his adult life.

Lewis served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. As a civilian, he worked many jobs, mostly because he couldn't sit still. He was the town policeman; he worked on a dairy farm and was the milkman; he cleaned the bank at night for a side job. Being the town's policeman, he had his own keys to all the stores on Main St (think Mayberry here).

In 1970, he married Mildred Lougheed. They relocated to Virginia Beach, VA, in 1978 to be closer to family, as they each had a son living there. Millie died in 1979. At that time Lewis' family began to see the effects of Alzheimer's disease that would eventually take his life.

He was the best grandfather a little girl could ever hope for. Grandpa always had a stock of Oreo cookies on hand for visits from the grandkids. He walked everywhere he went, usually ten miles or so a day. Grandpa was a smoker until one day he decided to quit, and he just did. He replaced the habit with Wrigley's chewing gum. I never saw him without a piece, and he ALWAYS shared. By the time I came around, Grandpa was "retired" and worked at the laundromat down the street from his home, cleaning the floors and maintaining the machines. He always provided his grandkids with a cup of hot chocolate out of the laundromat drink machine. It meant the world to us. He had a way of making simple things so meaningful and memorable.
