George was a Civil War soldier (Union), enlisting in Co. G NY 85th Vol. Infantry, was captured at Plymouth, NC, and survived two years in Andersonville Prison.
George worked as a mason and farm laborer. He made Lawrenceville, Tioga County, PA his home after the Civil War. Because of his long stint in Andersonville, George had many disabilities that prevented him from excelling in physical labor. He died in 1902 at his home in Tuscarora, Steuben County, NY. George is buried in Nelson Cemetery, Nelson, PA near where he lived most of his adult life. He is buried beside his wife, Olive.
