HARVEY FRED AKERS, SR., 73, of Belspring, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 1997 at his home. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Army and was a recipient of the Purple Heart, a retired employee of Hercules and a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William D. and Dessie Mae Price Akers, as well as one brother and seven sisters. A loving husband and devoted father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife, Geneva C. Akers of Belspring; daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Dennis Young of Roanoke; son and daughter-in-law, Freddie and Ann Akers of Belspring; four grandchildren, Jonathan and LeeAnna Akers, and Adam and Sara Young. He is also survived by one faithful brother, Charlie Akers of Radford; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, February 14, 1997, at Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joe McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the New River Valley Hospice, 111 West Main Street, Christiansburg, Virginia 24073. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
