Glenn Erwin Miller, 80, of Lynden, WA, passed away on October 17, 2014.

The son of the late Erwin and Blanche Miller, he was born February 2, 1934 in Seattle, Washington. Glenn lived in Seattle most of his life with his wife, Martha, who passed away January 22, 2012.

Glenn grew up in Seattle, and graduated from Ballard High School in 1952. After high school he was drafted into the Navy Air Reserve and served active duty Navigator flying A3D Sky Warriors off the USS Shangri-La Carrier.

From his teens, Glenn wanted to be a Seattle police officer. After active duty in the Navy, Glenn joined the Seattle police force. He earned his way from Beat Cop, Patrolman, Detective of Homicide, Auto theft, Vice and then served most of his 38 years as Sergeant. He wore his badge #1891 proudly, even having a personalized license plate with Sgt. Miller. He served in Georgetown, the New South precinct in West Seattle, and the Wallingford, New North precinct.

Glenn was known as a "policeman's policeman", leading by example and being there for his community. Glenn helped out families of his fallen comrades. While riding around Seattle with his brother, Gordon, he spotted a man who was robbing stores with a gun. He jumped out of the car, captured the man and discovered the gun was a toy.

Glenn went to Japan to assist in a trial. He loved being a police officer. After retirement, he enjoyed having lunch with his retired police friends.

Glenn was a member of IFP and the Elks. During his late teens, he owned a race car and enjoyed racing at local tracks around Seattle.

Glenn loved the great outdoors; elk hunting with his buddies from the police dept., camping and water skiing at Black lake with family, boating and fishing in the sound, week long camping trips to the San Juan Islands aboard his Dorssett ski boat among other adventures. Glenn enjoyed having Christmas lights on his house every year. He loved his pet cats and dogs.

After retiring, he was a snowbird to Las Vegas, Nevada.

Glenn is survived by his sons: Mark Miller of Mountlake Terrace, and Dean Miller, of Seattle; twin brother, Gordon (Aurianne) Miller, of McLean, VA; grandchildren: Dean Gordon and James Dean, of Marysville; many nieces and nephews; close family friend, Julie Fraser; caretakers, Marge and Kaylee; friends, Riley and Marleen; and first wife of 18 yrs., Patricia.

In addition to his parents and wife, Martha, of 38 years, Glenn is preceded in death by his brother, B. Charles Hemminger.

Friends and family were received at 2 PM on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Becks Tribute Center, 405 5th Ave. S., Edmonds, WA 98020.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Seattle Humane Society to 13212 SE Eastgate Way, Bellevue, WA 98005 or Seattle Police Officers' Guild, 2949 4th Avenue, S., Seattle, WA 98134.
