September 1922 - Lyman and his wife make a trip to Minnesota to visit his parents, John Oakley Beden and Mary Eckert Beden

In the 1930 census, they are still living in San Diego and Lyman is working as a hotel manager.


The San Diego Union - Monday January 11, 1937 Poisonous fungi took their third San Diego victim in 3 days yesterday when Thomas L Beden, 59, 128 Market Street, died at Mercy Hospital, A. E. Gallagher, deputy coroner reported. Others dead are John Garino, 59 café owner, died Friday and Mrs. Sophie G. Beden, 50, died Saturday. With tasty appearing mushrooms springing up after recent rains, city officials sounded a stern warning to gourmets, saying "There is no reliable and safe test by which a layman can tell good mushrooms from poisonous fungi". Mr. and Mrs. Beden died after eating a quart of fungi gathered west of Dehesa in Sweetwater Valley by a friend, John Mercurio. Both bodies are at Merkley's mortuary, pending funeral arrangements. Beden, member of the San Diego aerie of Eagles for 20 years, was a bartender at the lodge hall. He is survived by a nice, Miss Luella Franklin, San Francisco, who is expected to arrive here early today by bus. Services for Mr and Mrs Beden were held at Merley's Mortuary on January 14, 1937. Interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery
