Pickens, SC - Melvin Lamar Gilstrap, 59, of 1296 Meece Mill Road, passed away Sunday, July 11, 2010, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Greenville County, a son of the late Thomas Burns and Bernice Albertson Gilstrap, Mr. Gilstrap was self-employed in landscaping and lawn maintenance and was of the Christian faith.

Surviving are his wife, Catherine Hughes Gilstrap of the home; two daughters, Jennifer O'Shields and Cindi Dennis (Bobby) all of Easley; son-in-law, Wayne O'Shields of Easley; two brothers, Thomas R. Gilstrap (Reba) of Dacusville and James H. Gilstrap (Martha) of Easley; five grandchildren, Ryan and Caroline O'Shields and Lauren, Joseph and Sarah Dennis; and his God-daughter, Lori Preskitt.

Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow in Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley.

Visitation will be from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to MUSC Foundation, Head and Neck Cancer Fund, 18 Bee Street, MAC450, Charleston, SC 29425.

The family is at the residence.
