John H. Byrd, a highly respected resident of Asbury, died at his home there on Saturday last, aged 76 years. Mr. Byrd had been in failing health for several months, he having been confined to his home since the winter.
The deceased was a prominent member of Asbury M.E. church and had been a class leader for more than 30 years. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Manie Byrd, and two children, Mrs. Jas. B. Tawes and Mrs. Ross Riggin; as well as three brothers, Messrs. Chas. W., Jacob T. and Geo. E. Byrd, all of this community.
Funeral services were held last Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Dr. W.F. Corkran, pastor of Asbury M.E. church, and interment was in the new Asbury cemetery.

John H. Byrd was the son of David Byrd of Maryland and Rachel Mason of Virginia. He married twice: (1) Sallie N. Cullen, daughter of Travers Cullen, on 13 May 1862, Somerset County; and (2) Mary L. Byrd, daughter of Stephen W. Byrd and Mary Moore, on 11 Mar 1903 Somerset County. John was an oysterman who resided in the Asbury District. Mrs. Alice V.
