Mr. Melson had been at the hospital for treatment for diabetes and was to have been released Tuesday morning but unexpectedly developed heart trouble.
The deceased was born in Ripley county September 5, 1860, the son of Rev. B. A. and Mary (Poph) Melson. He was married to Erie McKinney of near Pickard and lived in that vicinity until her death several years ago.
One daughter, Mrs. Madge Johnson of Sheridan was born to this union.
Following the death of his first wife, Mr. Melson married Dolly Davids, who survives along with a daughter, Mrs. Mary Rickard of Florida. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Bell Cooper of Sheridan, Mrs. Rita Pogue of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and Mrs. Garnet Ogle of Bellview, Illinois; and a brother; Garth Melson of Indianapolis.
Funeral rites will be conducted at the Hills Baptist church Thursday morning at 10:00 o'clock with the Rev. G. L. Wiseman of Sheridan officiating.
Burial will be in the Hills cemetery.
