He was born to Willis Chrystoid and Margaret Olivia McPhaul. He graduated from Bonham High School and attended East Texas State University where he received a bachelor's and a master's degree. He was also an active member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He was an active member of the Bonham community serving on the Zoning and Planning Committee and was in the Kiwanis Club.
He was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his four children, Wesley C. McPhaul of Rowlett, Reginald McPhaul of Dallas, Victoria McPhaul of Baton Rouge, La., and Nicholas McPhaul of Temple; mother, Olivia McPhaul of Bonham; sister, Cynthia McPhaul of Dallas; two grandchildren; aunt, Ruth James of Paris; and a host of other family members and friends.
