David Charles Updike died Monday, March 12, 2013. He was born on March 7, 1945 to the late Fred and Emelia Updike.

David graduated from Trumansburg High School in 1964 and earned a business degree from Georgia Southwestern State University. In 1982, he started his own business, The Mailbox of Ithaca, which he operated until retiring to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

David was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. He was known for his generosity and fun-loving spirit, and was a loyal and loving son, brother, father, grandfather and friend.

He is survived by two children, Paul Updike (Theresa) of Buffalo, NY and Natalie Updike (Paul Jones) of Tucker, GA from his first marriage to Donna Updike; four sisters, Sue Porter, Dolly Esbjornsson, Marie Updike and Debra Henderson (Wayne); one brother, Fred Updike (Judy); ten grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and his beloved Corgi, Churchill.

He is predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Richard and John. Interment with military honors will be held at a future date at the Grove Cemetery, Trumansburg and will be announced.

Donations in David's honor may be made to Hospicare of Tompkins County, 172 E. King Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850. Bangs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
