Melba B. (Minniear) Steill, 73, died at 1:37 AM Thursday, Dec. 15, 1988, in St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center, where she had been a patient for two days. She had been in ill health four years, and a resident of St. Anthony's Healthcare Center for two weeks. Born July 28, 1915, in Laurel, NE, she was reared there, and spent most of her life in the Lafayette area. She was married in Lafayette, May 8, 1936, to James Steill, who died July 17, 1969.

Mrs. Steill had been a homemaker for most of her life, but after her husband's death, she worked in Purdue University's Life Science builing for five years. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and St. Ann's Altar and Aid Society. She also was a Pink Lady for St. Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary.

Surviving are three daughters, Karen (Mrs. Patrick) McDowell, Lynne (Mrs. Fred) Johnson, both of Crawfordsville, and Judy (Mrs. Thomas) Ketterer of Columbus, OH; a son, Jack Steill of Lafayette; her mother, Alma Barger of Lafayette; a brother, Jack Minniear of Cincinnati, OH; 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Jacob Minniear.
