He was born in Lafayette and lived here all his life. For more than 22 years, he worked for Sears in West Lafayette until buying the business in Clarks Hill in 1963. He was married to Geneva Halsema in 1942, and she survives.
He was a member of St. Mary Cathedral, Stockwell Conservation Club, and West Lafayette Fraternal Order of Police. He was a World War II veteran.
Surviving with the widow are two sons, Thomas and Gary, both of Lafayette; a daughter, Mrs. Glenn Spradlin of Rt. 1, Monon; his mother, Mrs. Faith Lester of Lafayette; seven brothers, Bernard Lester of West Point, Harold and Kenneth of Lafayette, Harry of Merrillville, George of Monticello, twins Cleo of Lafayette and Leo of Monticello; and two sisters, Miss Mildred Lester of Lafayette and Norma (Mrs. Dale) Hoppes of Rockville, MD.
