Elmore Martin "Dusty" Hammes 69, of 1813 N. 22nd formerly of Remington died at 6:12 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at his home. He had been ill for the past three weeks.
Mr. Hammes was a federal investigator for the civil service in Peoria, Ill. He retired in 1980.

Born in Sault St. Marie, on Nov. 1, 1924, he had lived in Lafayette for the past three years moving here from Remington. He graduated from Charleston (S.C.) High School in 1942, and attended the College of Charleston, the University of Carolina and the University of North Carolina.
On Sept. 1, 1958, he married Yvonne L. LeBlanc in Chelsea, Mass. She survives and is a retired registered nurse.
Mr. Hammes was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and Secular Franciscans.
A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he served in the Navy as a Lieutenant for 14 years.
Surviving with his wife, three daughters Mary L. Duncan of Anderson, Robin A. Wetli of Lafayette and Anne L. Raney of Goodland; two sons Roman G. Hammes of Lafayette and Elmore M. Hammes Jr. of Royal Oak, Mich; two brothers, Roman Burchart Hames II of Charleston, S.C., and John Anthony Hammes of Athens, Ga.
