Martha Ellen Janssen, 78, of West Lafayette, formerly of Waynetown and Crawfordsville, died at 1:33 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Lane Nursing Care Center in Crawfordsville.

Born April 16, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Fern Brunton Payne.

She married Paul William Janssen on Nov. 14, 1954. He died May 5, 1996.

She was a graduate of New Richmond High School. Following their marriage, she and Paul lived in the Waynetown area for 35 years before moving to Crawfordsville shortly before Paul's death.

Mrs. Janssen retired from First National Bank/Bank One and had most recently been living at Green Tree Assisted Living in West Lafayette, where she enjoyed a new hobby of oil painting. She was a former member of the Maple Grove Extension Homemakers Club, the Crawfordsville Business and Professional Women, the Waynetown United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church in Crawfordsville. She volunteered for several years at the Wesley Thrift Shop and as a Pink Lady at St. Clare Hospital.

Survivors include a son, David Janssen (wife: Deb) of Crawfordsville; three daughters, Diane Kehoe (husband: Mike) of Syracuse, Deb Zurawski (husband: Mike) of Crawfordsville, and Donna McClain (husband: Tom) of Berwyn, Ill.; and a brother, Fredrick Payne (wife: Pat) of Indianapolis.

Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, Whitney Camp (husband: Wes) of Clay City, Ashley Swartzendruber (husband: Jordan) of Elkahart, Carrie Kehoe of Broad Ripple, Tom Kehoe of Syracuse, Jeff Zurawski (wife: Lindsey) of Noblesville, Jena Zurawski of Greenwood, Jamie Zurawski of Brookston, Jake Zurawski of Crawfordsville and David McClain of Berwyn; and a great-grandchild, William Matthew Camp of Clay City.

A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Crawfordsville with Pastor Daryl Gilbert and Pastor Gary Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery South in Crawfordsville.
