GLENVIEW - Donald Ray Heinl, 87, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, at Arden Courts from pneumonia. Retired from Parker Industries and a former employee of Florsheim Shoes, Donald was born June 9, 1927, in York, PA. He moved with his family to Highland Park, IL, when he was 6 years old and attended the public schools, graduating from Highland Park High School. After graduation in 1945, he joined the Army, where he played in the band to entertain the USA troops in Italy. Upon being honorably discharged in 1947, he enrolled at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, IL. He was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity while studying for his bachelor's degree in Art - Class of 1951. He met there, the love of his life, Joanne Elizabeth Finch, who later became his wife in 1952. They lived in Highland Park, IL, Santa Monica, CA and Indialantic, FL before purchasing their home in Glenview in 1962. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2012. Don was an accomplished artist and musician. He played clarinet in a Dixieland Jazz Band for many years. He was a PADI certified scuba diver and had a motorcycle for several years. He was a charming man, good looking and always had a story to tell. He was very well-liked and always wore a smile. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, as well as the staff and caregivers at Arden Courts and from Heartland Hospice.
He leaves behind his children, Elizabeth (Nicholas) Muros of Plano, TX, Gary (Nancy) of Roselle and Todd (Susan) of Palatine; grandchildren, John (Rebekah) Muros, Caribeth (Beaux) Keyes, Sara Spiegel, Christopher (Laura) Heinl, Heidi (James) Scheidt and Danielle Heinl;
great-grandchildren, Tyler and Aidan Scheidt, Nicholas and Samuel Muros, Aubrey Keyes and Kendall Heinl;
niece, Donna Clavey Counsell (Omaha).
He was predeceased by his wife, Joanne Elizabeth Heinl (nee Finch); parents, William and Ethel Heinl;
sister, Dolores (Ron) Starks;
grandson, Kevin Garrett Heinl.

A memorial service will be held at the Glenview United Methodist Church on Saturday, Oct. 25, visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, followed by the memorial service at 12 noon. Interment private at Mount Emblem Cemetery, Elmhurst, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund, 333 N. Summit St., P.O. Box 10086, Toledo, OH 43699-0086 or the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
