William "Bill" Avery, Sr., 84, of Central Square, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, after a brief illness, with loving family by his side. Born and raised in Central Square, Bill owned and operated Bill Avery Excavating since 1973. He enjoyed collecting and fixing antique cars and, in his earlier years, enjoyed snowmobiling. Bill is predeceased by his parents, Fred and Gertrude Avery; brothers, Stanley Avery and Edwin Waterbury; and sister, Evelyn Ciaramella. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Ruth (Squires) Avery; children, Connie (Francis) Naughton, William, Jr. "Bill" (Vicky) Avery, Mike (Cindy) Avery, and Colleen (Dale) Cooper; sister, Emma Petrocci; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many extended family and friends. Funeral service: Tuesday, 11 a.m., at Traub Funeral Home, 684 N. Main Street, Central Square, the Rev. J. Michael Thesier officiating. Calling Hours: Monday, 3 to 7 at the funeral home. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, immediately following the service. Contributions may be made in Bill's memory to Central Square Fire Department, PO Box 92, Central Square, NY 13036.
