Larry Dean Bawks, 66, of Pickford, died Sunday, October 12, 2014 in Sault Ste. Marie.

He was born January 2, 1948, to Dean and Mae (nee Huyck) Bawks in Sault Ste. Marie.

Mr. Bawks grew up in Pickford, and was graduated from Pickford High School. He joined the United States Army and was stationed in Alaska, where he drove Army tanks. Upon his return to Pickford, he worked for Frank Huyck Trucking.

She married Sharon Stout on July 18, 1981, and they had three children. In 2013, after more then 40 years, Mr. Bawks had to stop working because of declining health.

He was an outdoorsman, and he loved to hunt deer and small game. Mr. Bawks enjoyed cutting wood. He was a proud supporter of his children in their sporting events.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; a son, Jason of Pickford; two daughters, Amy Bawks of Grand Rapids and Lindsay Bawks, also of Grand Rapids, and a grandson, Dean Bawks. He is also survived by two brothers and their families, Jerry and Cindy Bawks of Perry and Bruce and Glenda Bawks of Silver Springs, Maryland; a brother-in-law and his family, Gary Stout of Clayton, and his mother-in-law, Iris Stout, also of Clayton.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Bawks was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Dorman Stout.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 16, from 4pm to 8pm and Friday, October 17 from 10am to 10:45 at R. Galer Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens. Memorial contributions may be directed to Road to Recovery.
