James E. Bastin, 59, resident of this city for 16 years and a photographer, died at Major Hospital at 5:00 a.m. today. He had been ill for the past year and in critical condition for two weeks. An autopsy was scheduled for this afternoon to determine the exact cause of death.

Mr. Bastin, whose home was 912 E. Jackson St., was born in Stanford, KY, on January 13, 1902. His parents were James and Laura Bastin. He first was married to Myrtle Gabbert whose death occurred in 1930. Five Children survive, James E. Bastin Jr., of R.R. 4; Dale E. Bastin, St. Paul; Carl Kenneth Bastin of Indianapolis, Mrs. Harold Miller, Glenwood, and Mrs. Paul Wildridge, Connersville, IN. On June 18, 1931, he was married to Dora Griffith who survives. Also surviving are 19 grand children, one great grandchild and the following brothers and sisters: Samuel Bastin, Manilla; McKinley Bastin, Indianapolis, Mrs. Rosa E. Brandenburg, Stanford, KY, Mrs. Maggie B. Daniels, Cincinnati, Mrs. Cora Stephens, Waldron, and Mrs. Ida Pearl McGuffey of Danville, KY. Mr Bastin was a member of the Stanford Christian Church. His funeral will be held at the Murphy Mortuary Saturday at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. James Thorpe in charge. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary after 2:30 p.m. Friday.
