James Douglas "Doug" Daugherty, 72, of Nipomo, California, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.

Doug was born to Jim and Judy Daugherty on January 28, 1942, in Des Moines, Iowa. The family relocated to Santa Barbara when Doug was 2 years old. He attended Santa Barbara area schools from grade school through Santa Barbara City College.

Doug married Sondra "Sandi" Brown in 1960 and together they had 3 children, James, Jeffrey and Jana. Doug married Diana Gothberg in 1985 and he was the proud father of Diana's 2 children, Shaun and Alicia.

Doug joined 3M Company in 1962 and he retired from 3M in 2004 after a successful and accomplished career in international sales and marketing that spanned over 42 years. In addition to his corporate career with 3M, Doug also proudly served as a Reserve Deputy with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department for 28 years, retiring in 2004 at the rank of Lieutenant- North County Reserve Forces.

Although Doug relocated to Nipomo, California, he had a strong and life-long attachment to the Santa Barbara area, where he was raised and where several family members still currently reside. Doug had a passion for sailing and for over the past 20 years he enjoyed his regular trips to the Santa Barbara marina to tend to his sailboat.

Doug is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Diana; his children, James, Jeffrey, Jana, Shaun and Alicia; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his brother, Jay Dee Daugherty; his sister, Diane Daugherty; his aunt, Erma Case; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 11:00 am in the Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary Chapel with Chaplain Dan McGill officiating. A graveside service will be held at Santa Barbara Cemetery, Santa Barbara on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 11:00 am.
