George is the son of Brice Rufus Grannell and Emaline (Emma) Marquis. He is listed with his parents on the 1880 census as George F., son, age 5. His parents, both died young after the 1880 census was taken and the children were placed in separate family homes. He worked in the Coal Mines in Vigo County in his younger years, a Farmer and Laborer. The 1940 census year finds he is working as a Night Watchman at the Box Factory. According to one of his obituaries, he also worked at the Deaner Basket Factory in Sodus.

Matilda Mattick, August 30, 1893 in Vigo County, Indiana

Margaret Herzog, July 27, 1901 in Vigo County, Indiana
(Blessed with eight children)
