GALENA, KANSAS: Jeanette L. Gabrielson, age 83, passed away at 12:30 pm, Sunday October 12, 2014 at Mercy Hospital Joplin MO.
Jeanette was born September 23, 1931 in St. Frances, KS. Her parents were Rueben H. and Ella Bertha (Linin) Schlepp.
She graduated from St Frances High School and moved to Galena in 1962 from Bell Plain, KS.
She worked as a retail clerk for several years at John’s IGA, Joplin, MO and later at Steve’s IGA, Joplin, MO where she retired in 1993.
She was an active member of the Lady Elks, Galena, KS where she was awarded Lady Elk of the Year in 1996-97 and also in 2005-06. She helped with the weekly BINGO night. She also enjoyed playing cards, and had been an avid bowler.
Jeanette was married to John “Jack” Gabrielson on March 13, 1954 in St Frances KS. He passed away in May, 1986.
She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Lucas Gabrielson and one sister, Doris Little.
Surviving are two sons, John Gabrielson and Jerry “Mule” Gabrielson (wife, Lori); and one great-grandson, Kegan Ryan, all of Galena, KS.
She was taken for cremation under the care of Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS.
The family will conduct a memorial service at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena, KS. Pastor Jeff D Martin will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lucas Gabrielson Scholarship Fund at USD #499, Galena, KS.
