Irene D. Erickson, 82, of Kerkhoven, died Tuesday, October 7 at her residence. Funeral service will be at 2 pm on Monday at Kerkhoven Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, in Kerkhoven. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home, in Willmar.
Irene Dorothy Erickson was born March 16, 1932 in DeGraff, the daughter of Sam and Elsa (Laabs) Fenstra. Irene was baptized in the Lutheran faith. She lived in DeGraff briefly before her family moved to Kerkhoven. She attended Murdock Elementary School. During this time she helped on the farm, mainly doing outside work. On May 8, 1959 Irene was united in marriage to Wilton Erickson at Kerkhoven Lutheran Church. Following their marriage, they moved to the farm in Kerkhoven, where they lived and raised their two sons, Robert and Raymond. Irene enjoyed spending time with her two sons, and visiting with relatives and friends. She was also passionate about sports, mainly her Minnesota Vikings. She will always be remembered as a hard working mother who loved her family.
Irene is survived by her sons: Robert Erickson and grandson Jeremy of Collinsville, IL; and Raymond Erickson of Kerkhoven; siblings: Gene Fenstra of Willmar, Sam Fenstra of Willmar, Lucille Worden of Kerkhoven, Helen (John) Brandon of Crystal; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilton, parents, and brother, Donald Fenstra.
