Rose A. Wixson, 89, lifelong resident of Cheboygan and the Black River area, passed away at Community Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, March 21, 2001. She was born in Cheboygan on Aug. 19, 1911, the daughter of Jack and Anna (Ranville) O'Grady. She married Harry Wixson at Mackinaw City on Dec. 28, 1927. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother as well as the matriarch of a large and adoring family. Her husband preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 1993. She also was preceded in death by her son Dean Wixson on Jan. 9, 1991. Rose is survived by her children, Donna (Leo) Olson, John "Junior" Wixson, Karl Wixson, Ronald (Barbara) Wixson and Jim (Eva) Wixson, as well as her daughter-in-law Beverly Wixson, all of Cheboygan. She also leaves 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and her sisters Marie Charboneau and Louise Jarnac, both of Cheboygan, and her brother, Joseph O'Grady of Florida. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, March, 25, at the Christian Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 11 a.m. Monday, March 26, at St. Mary/St. Charles Church. Burial will take place at St. Francis Cemetery in Alverno. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to remember Hospice of the Straits.
